Kampala, Uganda: Former Minister of Works and Transport, Monica Azuba Ntege, has died at the age of 72.
Azuba is reported to have passed away on Tuesday, April 21, at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala. By press time, government had not yet issued an official statement confirming her death or its cause.
She served as Minister of Works and Transport from 2016 to 2019, having been appointed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to replace John Byabagambi. She later handed over the Ministry to Gen Edward Katumba Wamala after just three years in office.

During her tenure, she oversaw key national infrastructure programmes, including road construction projects and transport sector reforms at a time when government was prioritising connectivity and economic growth.
Azuba’s death comes just over a year after the passing of her husband, Mark Kawesa Ntege, who died in January 2025. The couple, married in 1998, are survived by eight children.
Her legacy remains tied to Uganda’s infrastructure development agenda during a period of ambitious road expansion and transport sector reforms.
