Kampala, Uganda: Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club (URA FC) have appointed experienced tactician Jimmy Kintu Mwera as their new head coach on a two-year contract, ushering in a new era at the club following the departure of Hussein Mbalangu.
The appointment comes after Mbalangu’s contract expired and was not renewed following URA FC’s disappointing 2025/26 Uganda Premier League campaign, which saw the Tax Collectors finish 11th with just 31 points and only five victories from 30 matches, their lowest league finish in recent history.
Confirming the appointment, URA FC said Kintu arrives with a wealth of coaching experience and a strong reputation for developing players.
“URA FC is delighted to welcome Jimmy Kintu Mwera as Head Coach. A CAF Licensed tactician with a proven track record in player development and modern football, Kintu joins the Tax Collectors ready for the challenge ahead,” the club said in a statement.
Kintu will be assisted by Godfrey Magoba, who has also signed a two-year renewable contract. The duo reunite after previously working together at Express FC, where they served as head coach and assistant coach respectively.
URA FC said the appointments form part of a broader restructuring of the club’s technical department as preparations begin for the new season, with additional technical staff expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
Kintu boasts an impressive coaching résumé across both men’s and women’s football.
He guided Uganda Christian University (UCU) to the University Football League title in 2019 before leading the institution to victory in the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUSU) Championship in 2022.
He also enjoyed remarkable success with St. Noa Girls FC, winning the FUFA Women Elite League, the FEASSA Girls Football Championship, and steering the club to the CAF African Schools Football Championship finals in Ghana.
Beyond Uganda, Kintu has coached Nairobi City Stars in Kenya and served as a Football Development Consultant at Magnet Soccer Academy in Tanzania, where he focused on youth talent development and modern coaching methodologies.
His assistant, Godfrey Magoba, is a CAF A Licensed coach with extensive experience in both men’s and women’s football, having previously worked with Uganda Christian University Women’s Team, She Maroons FC, Entebbe FC, and most recently Express FC.
Magoba is widely recognised for his expertise in technical planning, player development and performance analysis.
The appointments underline URA FC’s determination to rebuild after a difficult campaign and restore the club’s competitiveness in the Uganda Premier League.
Founded in 1997, URA FC are four-time Uganda Premier League champions and remain one of the country’s most successful professional clubs. The Tax Collectors will now look to Kintu and his technical team to revive the club’s fortunes and challenge for honours in the upcoming season.
