Kampala, Uganda: Kampala Metropolitan Police in South Division has recovered a suspected stolen motorcycle and arrested three suspects following an intelligence-led operation targeting an alleged motorcycle theft network operating within the city’s Metropolitan Area.
The operation, conducted on July 1, 2026, followed intelligence indicating that a motorcycle reportedly stolen from the Freedom City area in Namasuba was being transported for sale.
According to the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, officers attached to Katwe Police Division swiftly responded to the information and arrested Mukasa Dan, who is alleged to have been involved in the theft.
“During interrogation, Mukasa disclosed that he had stolen the motorcycle with Kimera Ali and that it had been taken to a parking yard in Kikajjo Parish. The operation was extended to Kikajjo, where Kabugo Charles was arrested while in possession of the motorcycle. He told investigators that he had been sent by Kimera Ali to collect it. The team later arrested Kimera Ali at Wansanso Garage Hub,” ASP Owoyesigyire said in the Thursday police statement.
Police recovered a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UEQ 405F, which is believed to have been stolen from Namasuba.
Owoyesigyire noted that the three suspects have since been charged and are being held at Katwe Police Division as investigations continue.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Mukasa Dan is a suspected serial motorcycle thief who has previously been linked to similar thefts reported in Bombo, Kaweweta, Namayingo and Namasuba.
Police further revealed that Mukasa had previously served a six-year prison sentence at Murchison Bay Prison for related offences.
Investigators also suspect that motorcycles stolen by the group were sold through Kimera Ali, who is now among those in custody.
ASP Owoyesigyire said detectives are continuing with investigations, including revisiting crime scenes, recovering additional exhibits and pursuing other suspects believed to be connected to the alleged motorcycle theft syndicate.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to assist security agencies in combating vehicle and motorcycle theft.
