Kampala, Uganda: Kibanda South Member of Parliament Jacob Karubanga Ateenyi has been appointed to two parliamentary committees in Uganda’s 12th Parliament, expanding his role in legislative scrutiny and oversight.
Karubanga will serve on the Standing Committee on Subsidiary Legislation and the Sectoral Committee on Information, Communication Technology (ICT) and National Guidance, following the constitution of parliamentary committees for the new legislative term.
The appointments place the legislator among MPs responsible for scrutinising statutory instruments, overseeing government programmes under the ICT and National Guidance sectors, and contributing to legislation and policy oversight.
Speaking after the committee appointments were announced, Karubanga welcomed the new responsibilities, saying they would broaden his parliamentary experience.
“I am happy about the exposure to various sectors of government away from where I belonged last term,” he said.
The Standing Committee on Subsidiary Legislation examines statutory instruments, regulations and other delegated legislation to ensure they comply with the Constitution and the laws enacted by Parliament.
Meanwhile, the ICT and National Guidance Committee oversees government agencies and programmes under the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, including matters relating to digital transformation, information technology, communications and national orientation.
The appointments are expected to strengthen Karubanga’s contribution to Parliament’s legislative and oversight functions while providing him with an opportunity to influence policy discussions in key sectors of national development.
For the people of Kibanda South, the committee assignments enhance their constituency’s representation in Parliament and provide another platform through which their legislator can contribute to national policy while advancing local development priorities.
As the 12th Parliament begins its committee work, Karubanga is expected to actively participate in deliberations aimed at promoting sound legislation, accountability and effective governance.
